Fascism

Fascism: [n] a political theory advocating an authoritarian hierarchical government (as opposed to democracy or liberalism)

From Bend, Oregon, via the Associated Press...

“We chose this phrase specifically because we didn't think it would be offensive or degrading or obscene," said Tania Tong, 34, a special education teacher.

Thursday’s event in Oregon sets a new bar for a Bush/Cheney campaign that has taken extraordinary measures to screen the opinions of those who attend Bush and Cheney speeches. For months, the Bush/Cheney campaign has limited event access to those willing to volunteer in Bush/Cheney campaign offices. In recent weeks, the Bush/Cheney campaign has gone so far as to have those who voice dissenting viewpoints at their events arrested and charged as criminals.

Thursday’s actions in Oregon set a new standard even for Bush/Cheney – removing and threatening with arrest citizens who in no way disrupt an event and wear clothing that expresses non-disruptive party-neutral viewpoints such as “Protect Our Civil Liberties.”

It's time to choose, Americans. Do we move closer to fascism or not?

As apposed to moving closer to communism? C'mon, there's extremes on both sides and we can't reduce ourselves to calling the right "fascists" and the left "commies".

If the Democrats are violating the civil liberties of Americans, feel free to protest as I have against the Bush campaign. If those violations are due to beliefs you would label "communist", please apply the label. Communism can be a form of fascism, e.g. the USSR had and China has fascist governments.

This specific behavior seems to me as truly fascist, i.e. the imposition of beliefs and behaviors from a hierarchy. Is it as extreme as the fascism of Hitler or Stalin? Absolutely not.

Should it be acceptable in America? No way. I call this fascist.

Do we want America to be a country where someone cannot where a shirt that reads "Protect Our Civil Liberties"??? That's frightening.

Tickets are not needed at all the Kerry rallies, e.g. the summer rally on the waterfront in Portland, Oregon.

Also there is a difference between Kerry's tickets for crowd control and Bush's *loyalty* oathes!

I don't know about the Kerry policy for signs that might disrupt the rally, but if that included something as innocuous as "Protect Our Civil Liberties" and if the campaign threatened to *jail* the citizens, then you can be damn sure I'd be raising hell against that campaign as well!

I am not for Kerry nearly as much as I am against Bush.

It’s amazing how liberals try to associate fascism to conservatives. Remember the Nazi’s? They were fascists and socialists. It’s not a coincidence that fascism seems so close to communism and socialism.

It all boils down to how much power you want to give the government and how much power to the individual. If you think that the liberal, socialistic, and communists ideals of big government are polar opposites of fascism then you’re kidding yourself.

Look at what’s happening today, Union thugs are storming Bush/Cheney offices threatening and physically attacking the campaign workers. Offices have been broken into and even shot at.

Before you read the Moore gospel and throw around the words Fascist, Nazis and calling people Hitler you should take a good look at yourself.

It's amazing how people read things that aren't written.

I suggest above that Stalin was a fascist. Obviously he was a communist as well.

Neither did I call anyone Hitler. He's not the bar for fascism. Read the definition above.

What's really amazing is that so-called "conservatives" tolerate the behavior that is being reported about the Bush campaign, not to mention the adminstration.

There is nothing conservative about them.
